A custom-made mouth guard will help keep you safe by cushioning the blow if or when you experience impact to your face.
Sports and activities that require a mouth guard do so, knowing a proper fitting mouth guard will reduce your risk of injuries to your teeth, tongue, lips, face, and jaw.
Our Custom Mouth Guard Process
Hutchinson Dental Center makes custom mouth guards by taking an impression of your teeth to ensure a proper, comfortable fit. Custom mouth guards are also made to be the proper thickness to round out your teeth. A custom mouth guard will hold your teeth and jaw in the correct position to enhance performance, prevent concussions, and avoid trauma to your teeth.
A quick appointment to take an impression of your teeth will last about 20 minutes. Your mouth guard will typically be ready in 1-2 days, and will last for about a year depending on use and changes to your teeth. You should contact us for a replacement mouth guard if yours has worn through, doesn’t fit anymore, or hurts while wearing. In the case of youth, the loss or addition of teeth since the last impression was made indicates a need for a new mouth guard. (Please note that custom guards may not be appropriate for those with braces due to the constant changing of the teeth.) Medical spending accounts and flex plans can be used for custom mouth guards.

The Minnesota State High School League, as well as many private sports leagues and clubs require the use of mouth guards during practice and games. Each sport and activity is different, so you should refer to the MSHSL for specific rules. In many cases, white mouth guards are not allowed, as it is difficult for coaches and referees to verify from a distance that mouth guards are being used.
